What’s the first thing that crosses your mind when you think of daylight?
Calm, A new beginning. A fresh start to try things out. Optimism. I know that sounds a little cheesy.
Do you think your imagination is a mix of your best enemy and your worst friend?
I’ve never thought of it being an ‘Enemy in any way. Sometimes it can be mischievous and scare the shit out of me. But my imagination is my lifeline. Without it I’d be nobody. In fact I see my self indebt to it. My imagination has been one of the things that has carried me through these years and has made my art what it is. Of course you can practice and learn your craft but you need that special ingredient which can’t be bought or taught. That’s the difference between people who are good and the people who are REALLY good. Fundamentally it’s all about ideas.
How would you describe yourself in the moment when you create?
Cut off from the world.
Why do you think you have talent and where do you think it comes from?
Talent comes from that unknown place. The same place where someone’s personality you adore or love comes from. It comes from the same place where the decisions are made about what patterns to have on an animals back or a bird’s wing... I think everyone is talented in a way at something. It’s just a case of harnessing it and taming it so you can channel your desired effect through it and use it to get the results you want. I have no idea why I have talent? I think maybe it’s random. I think maybe I’m extremely fortunate. Maybe it’s destiny? I don’t know. I’m just very grateful.
Perfect creation in world and life is?
There are too many things in the world which just seem to beautiful and perfect (with out trying to sound like the whole world is just rosy.) But I guess the most perfect thing which has always amazed me is how the eco system works. Every thing has its own role to play on this planet. The idea is perfect.
The best thing in life so far what happened to you.
Being old enough to look back on the path you’ve decided to take and think fuck it’s actually beginning to work out.
What’s the first thing you do in a perfect day?
Eat a good breakfast
What do you spend most of your money for?
Art supplies and drink
Music that keeps you in a perfect mood is?
God lots…At the moment I’ve been listening to the velvet underground. Too many DJ's, Arvo Part
Where do you think angels live?
Up in the sky…I’m quite a romantic.
How far do you think is the perfect world from you?
Very far…I don’t actually think as a race we will ever achieve it. As much as I would like to be I’m not very optimistic about the human race. As long as we are in physical form we will always war with one another and will always have greed. I think it’s instinctively in our nature to do this. The only time we will pull together as one race is if we are attacked by another... Maybe from space? And if we go out there we will go on and fuck that up.
What makes you smile on a rainy day?
My self generally…just remembering old conversation that made me laugh in the past. That kind of thing.
Where do you think the G spot – G-enius?
In Life the G spot has to be falling in love
What colour do you think people have when they are in love?
All Shades. They change fast like squid or cuttle fish. Purples, reds, blues. But they do it together. Mirroring each other.
Whose talent do you envy most?
I envy lots of people talent. I envy Tiepolo (1696 1770). Some people have an abundance of talent that it just seems silly. Every mark I’ve ever seen of his was made to look like it was created with ease. I’m sure that came with dedication and a lifetime of study but still the man paints like an instrument of god. I definitely don’t have his talent but I’m sure he couldn’t paint the same way I can either. He would probably think I’m sloppy.
What kind of language do you think fishes use under water?
I think they look at each other and communicate by movement and colour. So I guess it’s visual.
Your worst dream is?
Getting shot in the face in front of my brother by a headless gunman in my living room. I was made to take down the cushion which was shielding my face while I was crying with fear and made me look at him before he pulled the trigger. I just kept thinking I had so much to do and achieve and I would never get the chance.
How do you define beauty?
Beauty makes me feel in awe of something when I hear or see it. It touches you inside.
Your biggest influence is?
My biggest influence is probably the people I’ve met in my life. Through out your life you meet special people who show you other avenues and make you realize you can do certain things. My mother and father fall into this with their love of life but also there have been a few tutors who have helped me along the way. They made me want to do what they do. They made me hungry to create and believe in the talent I had. So I think I i owe it to them. There are lots of others of course. But these are the fundamental influences from which everything else came.
Do you think death and love have something in common and what is it?
Death and love are part of the same journey. They are on the same path we take in life and are connected to everything we enjoy in our lives. Knowing that death is inevitable makes me love what I love even more. To know what I love is transient and is only around for a precious moment makes me appreciate the love and enhances the emotions even more. The only reason I fear death is to loose love.
Life is worth it because?
What you learn. It’s all about learning.
And if it is a movie it will be titled?
“Do you get it yet?”
