| The Curwen Studio and the Tate Britain print group show: UK
Antony Micallef along with Paula Rego and Mark Herald have been invited to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration of the famous Curwen studios. To commemorate this occasion they will be making a special limited edition lithograph print which will be exhibited at the Tate Britain.
Special Limited Editions
(From the Curwen studios website)
Paula Rego - we are delighted that Paula is to create an original print especially for our 50th anniversary, which will depict the start of the studio in 1958.
Mark Hearld - this edition will reflect the company from which the studio was born - the Curwen Press. Mark's inspiration is very much influenced by a number of artists that worked with the press so it seemed right that he should be asked to cover this period.
Antony Micallef - has very kindly agreed to do an original print for us that will represent the present. He has worked with us on several occasions to create his prints.
Exhibition dates:

Antony Micallef interview in Wonderland magazine (Danish version). Text by Charlotte Mehder Thomsen.
"When Antony Micallef left university he didn't think he could live of his paintings. Now a few years later he is one of the most promising painters in the UK, and his work is already in huge demand among discerning international collectors. Last year his show at the Lazarides Gallery in London was sold out within 30 minutes, and in the spring of 2007, his work graced the cover of Sotheby's Contemporary catalogue resulting in a regular bidding war and went on to sell for over three times it's estimate."

| Sotheby's front cover: London UK
Antony Micallef makes front cover of Sotheby's catalouge. 18 June 2007
Sale at Olympia in London.. Modern Contemporary Art section.
Quote from Sotheby's catalouge:
Having won second prize in the BP/Amaco Portrait of the Year awards in 2000, Anthony Micallef moved away from strict portraiture preferring to combine his exquisite draughtsmanship with a dark and passionate exploration of colour and contemporary expressionism as a means of dissecting what he sees as the frivolities of pop culture. He says; “The trouble with pop imagery is that it doesn’t really go deeper than the surface, you have to drag it down and challenge it to make it interesting. When you put two contrasting images together it causes friction and that is the bit I’m interested in.” In the present work, the dark, Bacon-esque smears to the face conjure unlooked for associations when combined with the delicately alluring roses, the juxtaposition revealing at once the saccharine seduction of colourful pop imagery and consumerism alongside its dark and troubling underbelly. This complexity and brutal beauty explain why Anthony Micallef has become one of the most promising young artists working in Britain today.

The New York Times: USA
Antony Micallef talks about his recent success in a small article for the New York Times fashion magazine: T Style.
The British painter Antony Micallef likes to subvert pop culture in his work, which is then collected by pop-culture fixtures like Michael Stipe. ''In order to make it yours, you've almost got to drag it down and change it,'' Micallef says, ''degrade it in a sense.'' Micallef's dreamlike images, which the artist calls visual diaries, are culled from the works of old masters, fashion magazines, graffiti and Japanese cartoons alike. One sketch, ''Freaks, My Self and a Sex Object,'' in which Micallef wears a Puma T-shirt, caught the attention of the president of apparel for Puma. Micallef recently began collaborating on designs for the company, but says: ''I'd be jumping the gun to say I would become a fashion designer. I'd just love to have a go.''
